Nars Velvet Shadow Stick Review

LINKS // Nars Velvet Shadow Stick | Goddess | £21.00 | 0.05oz

I’ve wanted to try eye shadow sticks for a while now. Mostly because I wanted something small I could take with me in my bag when I go out in case I need touch ups, as carrying around a huge palette is not ideal. I’d heard a lot about these Nars Vvelt Shadow Sticks across various blogs and youtube videos and decided I would try them out. I treated myself to some Nars makeup is a small personal reward for doing well in my first year at Uni. Along with the Sheer Glow Foundation and Creamy Concealer I picked up the Nars Velvet Shadow Stick in the shade Goddess which is a shimmery pink champagne shade.

If you don’t know what eyeshadow sticks are, they are just a cream eye shadow in stick form. This one is a nice size, about the length of a pencil. It’s in a plain black tube with a kind of nude peachy tone on the end. It’s not the shade of the shadow but I guess it’s a sort of similar version. I think these very easy to use. I generally just swipe them across my eyelid and blend them out, sometimes adding another colour into the crease or sometimes just leaving it. I will say if you’re in a rush, this is your best friend, because you just draw it on, blend and your done.

The shadow lasts pretty much the whole day, without a problem. There are two downsides to the product, first of it tends to crease when put over eye shadow primer. I’m not sure why, I’ve tested this theory both with high end primers, like the Urban Decay Primer Potion and drugstore primers and I’ve just found whenever I’ve used a primer with it, it has creased like crazy. I skip primer whenever using this now, because it just works so much better without it. The second downside is that I find it can be a bit chalky if you layer it to much and because of this I tend to only do one quick sweep over a clean base to avoid chalkiness and creasing.

This eye shadow has amazing staying power. I swatched some on my hand, rubbed it with my finger and a wet cloth and it didn’t budge at all. In fact it looked no different. And that’s really the sort of staying power you want if you’re too lazy to touch your makeup up during the day like me. Although it does mean when removing your makeup you can’t just use a makeup wipe, you have to get all in with your cleanser and toner to get this baby off your eyelids.

This retails at £21.00 for 0.05 Oz on the Nars website, although other websites do sell it cheaper. John Lewis and Look Fantastic sell it for £20 and Feel Unique, which is where I got it from, sells it for £16.80, at a 20% discount. I would say that is worth the price. A lot of high end shadow sticks range in the £30-40 range so £20 I think is pretty good, especially for something of this quality. I’m definitely repurchase this, and actually looking at the others colours Nars offers, I really want to try Hollywoodland, Oaxaca and Aigle Noir, which are all shimmery colours. They also have a matte version of the stick, which I really want to try in Dark Angel, which is a beautiful dark chocolate brown.

If you’ve tried this product, let me know. I’d love to know if you liked it or hated it and if it did the annoying creasing over primer thing with you too. Maybe my issue is I’m not using the Nars Primer. I don’t know, if I ever buy it I’ll use them together and post an update. But apart from the annoying creasing and the chalkiness issue this is a solid 7/10 for me.

Sleek Storm Eyeshadow Palette Review

jnjnnLink: [x] | Price: £7.99

So another sleek palette review here, this time for the storm palette. Out of the Oh so Special Palette and this one I probably prefer this one, simply because I just like the colours a lot more. I tend to like a little bit of pink shimmer on my eyes and this palette offers a lot better pink shades than the other palette.

My favourites shades from this palette are Perfect Storm, Firestorm, Snow Storm and Sand Storm. As you can see every colour has a name that somehow is related to storms which is why it’s named the storm palette. There’s 9 shimmery shades and 3 matte shades in this palette, all of which look beautiful on and are really pigmented.

Like I said in my last sleek review as much as I love the pay off and how pigmented Sleek’s eyeshadows are I’ve found that they don’t have a very long staying power. I’d say that they maybe last 4-5 hours, which is pretty good if you’ve got a short day but when you have a full work day it’s not really what you want.

I’d give this a 7/10. Great colours but bad staying power.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Revolution Beyond Flawless Palette Review

I’ve seen a lot of people raving about this palette for a while now, mostly because it has so many amazing colours in it. It has 32 shades, 27 are shimmer and 5 are matte. I love how it has so many different shades, mostly neutral with a few corals and greys thrown in there. I feel like you do just about every look with this palette as it has colours for every occasion. My favourite colours are probably Bare Pink, Zorba, Pug, Cookie Dough, Autumn and Whole Meal. I really love all the different colour names even if Cookie Dough does always make me hungry.

These are all really pigmented and really easy to reply. I will say however their staying power doesn’t seem to be that especially without any sort of eye primer. They last for a few hours but not really a full working day, so I really only tend to wear these if I’m only going to be makeup for a few hours or if I’m going to take it with me to update my makeup throughout the day.

I should also mentioned I love that this palette comes with a huge mirror, which should honestly be a standard for any palette. Also I did plan to do some swatches of the entire palette and then the memory card those pictures were on got corrupted, but when it’s fixed I’ll try and upload the swatches.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette Review

6Link: [x] | Price: £7.99

I’ve been using Sleek palettes for a while now and I’ve talked about the on this blog a few times in favourites posts and hauls but Ive never really done a review of one so I thought whilst I’m doing my rounds I might as well since I already have the pictures of this palette from when I brought it.This lovely palette comes with 5 shimmery shades and 7 matte shades. My favourite shades are the gold and pink shades, such as Bow, Organza, Gift Basket, Gateau and The Mail. They all blend nicely together and love really nice on.

I’ve always found the staying power of sleek eye shadows to not be that great (which is why I don’t really buy them anymore.) but they’re always really pigmented and look really beautiful on.

I would give this palette maybe a 6.5/10. Colour and pigmentation is great but staying power is not so great.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Maybelline 24 hour colour tattoo review

123Link: [x] | Price: £4.99

So I recently picked up two of the Maybelline 24 hour colour tattoos, aka cream eye shadows. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about these and how good they are. I have one in a nice light pink named ‘Pink Gold’ and another in a nice light bronze named ‘On and On Bronze’. Both have a slight shimmer to them and look really nice on. I really adore these and I’ve been using them every time I do my makeup for a while now. The thing I love most about them is that they make a really amazing base. I can wear this either by themselves or with eye shadow over the top. Lately I’ve been putting both on, blending them together and then adding a little bit of dark brown eye shadow in my crease. It all blends very well and gives a sort of light rose gold smokey eye, which is how I do my eye shadow on most days, considering rose gold is my favourite colour.

The staying power is amazing. The packaging says it lasts for 24 hours but I’ve never worn my makeup that long so I can’t confirm or deny if that’s true or not. I can say however this does last from the moment I put my makeup on to the moment I take it off. It’s staying power is amazing, with or without other product on top. This is the first cream eye shadow I’ve ever used but one of the best eye shadows in general I’ve used. I really like the two colours I own but I’m going to get some more at the moment because they have so many other beautiful colours I want to get.

I would give these a 10/10 because they’re just amazing and I love them.
